Detroit River Walleye Charter
Wyandotte, MI

Spring Walleye Season Starts Here

Every April, the Detroit River does something special.

Walleye push up from Lake Erie into the current, stacking in the channel edges and current breaks between the US and Canadian shores.

For serious walleye anglers, this is one of the best spring runs in the Midwest, and Captain Gravatt is there for all of it.

He runs Detroit River charters out of Wyandotte from the start of April through the first week of May.

After that, he heads north to the St. Marys River for walleye opener on May 15.

If April is on your calendar, this is the trip to book.

Who This Trip Is For

  • Walleye anglers who want to fish the Detroit River spring run

  • Families with kids: children 10 and under fish free, and Captain Gravatt is patient with new anglers

  • First-timers: all gear provided, no experience needed

  • Serious anglers who want a guide with real tournament background on this specific fishery

Fishing Techniques

  • Captain Gravatt uses a mix of precision jigging in the current breaks and targeted drifts through the shipping channel edges.

  • Spring walleye on the Detroit River respond to low-light conditions and walleye chop: a light surface churn that breaks the fish's line of sight to the boat.

  • Captain Gravatt times his drifts and positions accordingly, the same discipline he built during his tournament years.
